A very fine and refreshing post-rock totally immersed into a synth pop pool.
It’s so good to hear interesting and challenging post-rock bands. The scene is so “auto-replicant”, that everything different is welcome.
Errors, a new band from Glasgow not only sounds different. They’re effectively good.
It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever sounds so mature. I wonder for how long they worked in this stuff.
A must have for any post-rock fan.

Hissing Fauna… is the first album I’ve heard by Of Montreal.
This surprised me at first because of the free flowing vocals and melodies, but took me a while to get into it.
Kevin Barnes doesn’t seem to have musical barriers, he easily go crazy into a frentic synthpop tantrum embracing almost every imaginable rythm combination.
My favourite tracks are Cato as a Pun, Gronlandic Edit andFaberge falls For Shuggie.

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork

Chromeo is an electro duo. Nowadays that’s enough for me to have good expectations, but these guys go beyond. They’re obsessive with 80’s music and they do it well enough to impress me even in retro-fashion times. Fancy Footwork is easily a 10/10 rating. I love 80’s. I love Chromeo.

What almost nobody knows is that this kind of music is not that new. The sub-genre picopop defines japanese bands that use retro low fi synthesizers specially related to video game sound.
If you once loved (or still love) 8-bit or early 16-bit video games you’ll certainly like YMCK.

[no cover yet]

Crystal Castles is a canadian electronic duo that is taking the world by surprise. They mix retro beats and atari-like synthesizers (in fact I heard they have a synthesizer connected through an atari sound-card) with Alicia distorted screams.

The album version I have is apparently an unmastered leak, so I cannot say how definitive it is. But there are awesome hits like the claustrophobic Alicia Practice in addition to Courtship Dating and Love and Caring. The rest is electro noise, synth pop snippets and a few hard retro electro tunes like 1991 and Knights, which are a good answer to the french electro explosion.
