2009-animal-collective-merriweather-post-pavilion

Animal Collective is in my opinion the latest most innovative band from NY. They keep going deeper into freak folk and psychedelic vocal experimentantion in such a way that every record they release I like better than the predecessor.
Merriweather Post Pavilion keeps the tradition and is my fav AC album to date.
Everything sounds like a perfect polished one-peace. The music is more synthetic, and the upbeat goes on and on during the whole album, making the whole thing really happy and inspiring.

Grindstone is a sparse collection of what the norwergian guys like, but their power needs some direction.

Widow City is a rough collection of rythms and unfinished melodies that could have been great songs.
That’s why I didn’t like it immediately, after some plays it started going smoothly through my ears.

Heavy and tense experimentalism. Einstürzende Neubauten is one of the most successful avant-garde acts ever.
The Jewels is one more mastepiece of psychotic rythms produced by all kinds of sources, and the harsh voice of Blixa Bargeld.
Very nice.

I can’t say in any moment that Blue Lambecy Downward is not an interesting album. In fact it starts concentrate and goes on solving in abstract music. It requires some experimental background to enjoy, of course.

A joyful electric folk outfit covered with a lot of vocal harmonies.
Sweet as the slow songs of Animal Collective executed with Grizzly Bear simplicity.
But Sun Giant EP doesn’t feel restricted to their influences and labels, it flows free from folk to rock and pop classic structures.

Despite the homonymous track is a frentic confusion, Water Curse EP shows that Animal Colletctive continues in abstract and atmospheric directions.
Particularly I hope there are more tracks like Water Curse in their next full release.
